Capsule Geology

The Ruby occurrence is located north of the McDougall River and approximately 17.7 kilometres southwest of the community of McLeod Lake.

Regionally, the area is underlain by mudstone, siltstone, shale and fine clastic rocks of the Triassic Takla Group. To the southwest, calc-silicate and paragneiss metamorphic rocks of the Upper Cretaceous to Eocene Wolverine Metamorphic Complex and pegmatitic intrusive rocks of the Cretaceous Wolverine Range Plutonic Suite are exposed.

Locally, numerous quartz veins hosted by schistose argillites are reported. Some of the veins conform with the strike and dip of the enclosing rock formations, whereas others are crosscutting. The main workings are on a 6- to 9-metre-wide outcropping of quartz that shows a little pyrite and galena mineralization. Gold and silver values of the quartz veins were quite low, although possibly significant gold values were reported from some of the country rock.

In 1983, a sample (3456) from a quartz vein with abundant pyrite and minor chalcopyrite, bornite and malachite from the occurrence area assayed 0.6 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 12164).

In 1984, a sample (3124) from a sheared cataclastic limestone, located approximately 300 metres north of the main occurrence, assayed 1.5 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 13750).

In 1991, samples from one vein, up to 6 metres wide, assayed up to 171.4 grams per tonne gold (George Cross Newsletter #92, May 13, 1991).

Work History

In 1933 and 1934, Cariboo Northern Development Co. and Northern Reef Gold Mines Ltd. held the area and completed a 15.6-metre adit and an 8.4-metre winze on the area.

During 1981 through 1987, Ezekiel Explorations Ltd. completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling and airborne and ground (magnetic and electromagnetic) geophysical surveys on the area as the GN 1-18 claims of the G North property. In 1989, Ezekiel Explorations Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping and geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling on the area as the G North property. Rock samples collected in 1989 by Ezekiel from previously mapped and sampled quartz veins and sheared, cataclastic limestones in the vicinity of the old mine area, yielded very low gold and silver values. A few soil samples were collected in this area, but no gold values above the detectable level were obtained. The airborne geophysical survey maps show this area as a large magnetometer low and resistivity low. These lows were interpreted as being due to intense alteration (carbonatization) of the andesitic wallrocks, This and the presence of quartz veining in this area indicate the possibility of epithermal-type mineralization. In 1990, a 124.0 line-kilometre ground magnetic and electromagnetic survey was completed on the property.

In 2020 and 2021, Golden Planet Mining Corp. completed a regionally extensive program of prospecting, geological mapping, geochemical (rock, till and soil) sampling and a 4851.0 line-kilometre airborne magnetic and electromagnetic survey on the area as the Rider property.
